Animal Farm Power corrupts
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is a complex book, which conveys a lot information. The book is basically a parallel of the Russian Revolution, but Orwell also wrote this book with, as an objective, to understand the major theme: power corrupts. This theme is obviously presented in the novel, but to simplify your understanding of this essay, Napoleon will be used as an example of a corrupted individual by power. To conclude this introduction, the corruption of Napoleon will be presented under three aspects: Desire, Achievements and absolute power. Dishonest by those in powerââ¬â¢, despite the dictionary definition of the word, corruptions could be used in many ways and contexts, here is an example: Napoleonââ¬â¢s, Squealerââ¬â¢s and Snowballââ¬â¢s nature has been corrupted by old Majorââ¬â¢s speech. Only his words and idea corrupted the pigsââ¬â¢ nature. Napoleon forgot what he was and only foreshadowed what he would be as a leader. I think that this is the first step of how power corrupts someone. The desire of power makes Napoleon forget about his own nature because he only sees how he could rule the farm. This desire came from the pigsââ¬â¢ inferiority to Mr. Jones and to add some more Napoleon was for sale, so his value to the farm owner was even more relevant. It is the same story in the real life, with Joseph Stalin and the Tsar Nikolay Alexandrovich Romanov or Nicholas II. Stalin was a peasant which from nothing got the absolute power because the desire that he had to get it was so big and did some smart moves, just like Napoleon. Stalin took advantage from the situation to get out of his labor class. This communicates that we, inferior people, ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢hateââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ so much powerful individuals. Not because they are because we would so much like to take their place. This feeling could be summarized with the word jealousy, desire and pride. Letââ¬â¢s get back to our pig, only the idea got him ready to take Mr. Jonesââ¬â¢ place, by learning the alphabet and creating animalism as it is said at the page 13 of the novel. Those are two hints proving Napoleonââ¬â¢s corruption and so only because of an old individual who said I had a dream! Now that the corruption cycle started, our pig, Napoleon is ahead of the ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢temporary governmentââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ followed with Squealer and Snowball. They took control of the farm and now get advantages which will get them attached to their power. They now could do anything from the farm as they are the leading group and they have Squealer which is all the propaganda that cover up their dishonest activities. One of these activities is stated at the page 14 when Squealer explains to the animals that the pigs need the milk and the apple for their health, that if the pigs were to get sick Mr. Jones would be back on the farm. So all the animals concluded that the milk and the apples shall be reserved for the pigs. We clearly see that the pigs are now manipulating he others animals, another proof that their intentions are again corrupted by power as if the pigs wouldnââ¬â¢t had it, they would never had lie to the other animals on the farm. Itââ¬â¢s the same story in real life, Stalin and Trotsky, when Nikolay died, with the control of the Medias they (Squealer) they set up exactly what they wanted. More corrupted than the others, Stalin even took control of one Newspaper and made it the national journal calling it ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢La Pravdaââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ which means the truth in English, by doing so he gets another key to control the population. This show the ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Facetteââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ of power that everybody would like: the benefits that corrupts. At this point, our individual, Napoleon has already reached a certain level of corruption as he gains more and more power. The last step he can reach is, absolutism and to do so he need to eliminate any other leader and get another way to control despite Squealer to gain the ultimate power. This is exactly what Napoleon will do, by chasing Snowball off the charm with the puppies he took from their mother as it is written at the page 21 of the book. Here we can see the complete corruption of Napoleon as he now has all the power he wanted, he does anything he wants even what is forbidden by the amendment, like drinking alcohol or sleeping in beds. In a parallel world, itââ¬â¢s the same story with Joseph Stalin, who exiled Trotsky, the only other leader that limited his powers. In the both world this complete corruption could be seen because of one detail. Both leaders killed to get their entire power without any problem, act that no slave, normal person or powerless human could do without getting punished. On a deeper level we can even say that by doing so the leaders corrupted their fate and souls because killing is the only way to ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢divideââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ in a breaking way your soul. Finally everyone would absolutely like to get power as it gets you ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢higherââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ than others, everyone would enjoy it as it gets you benefits and finally everyone would like to be upon everyone else as itââ¬â¢s human nature. The power really corrupts and one of the main reasons is that man will always want more: letââ¬â¢s take a guy in a Porsche parking beside a Honda civic, he will feel good but he know his power is limited as the dude at the cross light laughs in his Ferrari but even him feels limited when he see that family passing by on their yacht at port. Even them when they are enjoying the sun will see a private jet taking off they will know that the person inside is even more powerful. This cycle will never end because even the owner of this private jet will feel inferior to the guy in the space station with his clown nose. This only shows us that power corrupts because men will always want more as feeling such as happiness arenââ¬â¢t supposed to be developed with properties material and power.

CPI valuation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
CPI valuation - Essay Example The price-to-earnings ratio represents the difference between CPIââ¬â¢s current share price in the market as compared to its per-share earnings. Currently CPI has earnings exceeding $200,000,000 annually, however, it is only regionally located at this time within the United States. Major competitors of CPI in similar areas, hair care and personal hygiene are globally positioned with revenues in the billions annually. This specifically means that CPI is not able to play at the same level as some of the larger conglomerates. For instance Proctor and Gamble a global competitor listed as PG on the New York Stock Exchange traded on Friday April 21, 2011 for 63.27 a share with a volume of 10,616,245 shares on the market (Proctor and Gamble, 2011). This allows for over 600 million dollars in revenue available through stocks alone, with over 2/3rds more revenue than CPI in stocks alone in addition to a global presence Proctor and Gamble easily outpaces CPI. However, this is one aspect and should not keep the board from advancing the proposal to globalize and expand our market base and operations.

The different directions in Judaism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
The different directions in Judaism - Essay Example Most people translate the Halakha as a Jewish law, however, in the real sense, it means the path. That is the manner in which people ought to live. On this basis, most Jews who lived in the diaspora used the Halakha as a source of their religious and civil laws. In the contemporary and modern Jewish society, the personal and the family laws are always under the authority of the rabbi courts. On this basis, the family and personal values are always under the guidance of the Halakha. In interpreting the Halakha, there are three main Jewish directions, namely the Orthodox, the liberal, and the Hasidism directions. The Orthodox Jews believe in the Halakha as a religious system (Landesmann and Jones, 2012). They believe that the Halakha is a revelation of the will of God. Orthodox Jews believe that the Rabbis have a duty of interpreting the written Torah, where its provisions are not clear. However, they must only to do so with the regulations specified by Moses, at the mountain of Sinai. These regulations under consideration were transmitted orally, and they are clearly explained in the book of Talmud. Orthodox Jews believe that no rabbi has an authority to change the Jewish laws contained in the Talmud and the Torah, all they can do is to give an interpretation of these laws. However, their interpretations are subject to change, and reconsideration. According to the Orthodox Judaism, the role of a woman is dynamic and complex. Women under the Orthodox Judaism are allowed to engage in business, to observe the Sabbath, to engage in activities aimed for their personal development, and this includes academics, etc. The role of Jewish Orthodox women revolve around the mentioned areas. However, the Halakha does not identify the specific duties and roles of women amongst the Orthodox Jews; however, the orthodox Jews believe that the Halakha only provides guidance on how women should live. The orthodox Jews believe in the role of a

Discourse community analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Discourse community analysis - Essay Example Other than the policies established to guide the communities, they are set upon conventionalities depending on the identity of an individual. The discourse communities in question for discussion include engineering association affiliates (forming the professional entity), IT and socializing agency in a higher learning institution (constituting the personal discourse community) and financial capacity building agency in a banking institute (constituting the academic discourse community). Discourse community analysis is significant in a myriad of ways. For instance, it helps in the development of knowledge by the members of the given discourse community; makes it possible to agree to various conventions of life that may be a communal concern. In these regards, one is capable of developing mastery of a given field. In a nutshell, discourse community is a socializing agency (Pogner, 2-3). This is an academic discourse community whose mandate is to incorporate the capacity building program for the banking sector. Its operations vary from building up individual banking institutions as well as incorporating a corporate approach to the various institutions. This is a situation that involves two communities. The first one is the professional community where we have bankers, and the other is an academic community. Due to the heterogeneity in operations of the information system of the two cooperating banking institutions, the academic community sets in to narrow this bridge so that the two different departments from the two banks are harmonized. In the event, information is shared between the two banks alongside the banking capacity building institute. This is representative of a discourse community since one of its conceptions is in information dissemination. It is thus evident that from the two banks, technicians in the IT department are taken through a capacity building process that helps in the reaffirmation of cooperation amongst the two

INDUSTRY OF SHOPPING CENTERS IN HONUDRAS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
INDUSTRY OF SHOPPING CENTERS IN HONUDRAS - Essay Example The real estate investment in the country was able to drop by 15 percent, and this drop was due to the contraction of the global credit as well as export market and political crisis. Now Honduras has some of the best shopping malls in the world with modern facilities inside the malls (Ling and Naranjo 3). One of such a kind of mall is San Pedro Sula mall, and this mall has about 150 stores, an Applebeeââ¬â¢s restaurant, 23 eateries that offer food products, an arcade, a Cinemark movie theatre, a banking centre, and a parking lot located in the underground. Besides the underground parking lot, the mall also has 1,200 extra parking spaces with 100% air-conditioning system and security cameras. San Pedro Sula shopping mall has a friendly atmosphere as well as stores with international standards, and the services offered here present many clients with opportunities that are only visible to many through television adverts. Some of the international standard stores in this mall are Lady Lee, Puma, Jet Stereo, and Carrion with a modern state of art technologies. The stores have automated systems as well as electromechanical systems for communication, air conditioners, and monitoring of the stores. The latest technology incorporated in this mall made it win an award from International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC), some of the contributing factors to winning the award besides the latest technology were the best traffic flow design of the mall, and this made it able to compete with other malls in Dubai and Brazil. In 2012, the countryââ¬â¢s GDP was 17.97 billion US dollars, and this value represented close to 0.03% of the total world economy. There has been a great improvement in the economy because in 1960, the GDP stood at 4.57 USD up to 2012 and this year GDP, the value has shot up to 17.97 USD. This improvement is practically an indicator of how lucrative the businesses are in the country, and the booming business is the commercial real estate business. T he hiring and renting of commercial real estate in the country are relatively cheap, and most of these commercial real estates have modern designs and technology. They offer a variety of the cool and serene business environment that ensures comfort ability of the occupants. Renting of these apartments is renewal, and the clients are always at liberty to renew the trading contracts with the commercial real estate owners. Most of the tenants in Honduras are American citizens, and the laws and practices that govern real estate ownership in the country are quite different from the ones in America. Because most of the tenants are Americans, some of the insurance firms from the USA have been on the front line to provide title deeds for most of the lands in the country through the help of attorneys from the country (Total Transaction Costs 6). Most of the cases involving land ownership in the country have been prolonged by the judiciary system of Honduras, and this has led to the loss of m oney by many American citizens in their quest to get justice. Besides the long case protocols, most of the Americans have also been frustrated in their quest to settle most of the disputes resulting from land ownership (How High 9). Most of the foreign tenants have been brushed off using violence in some of the disputed cases. The Honduran laws have imposed

A Game of Cat and Maus Essay Example for Free
A Game of Cat and Maus Essay Maus and Maus II are both very powerful and moving graphic novels. Both of which discuss one of the worst tragedies known to mankind. Spielgelman used the graphic novel form because it came natural to him, however he probably also used it as a way to get a larger audience and to make the subject matter a little less intimidating. However, Spielgelmanââ¬â¢s use of animals to represent the different races helps the reader better understand the situation in a somewhat entertaining and a somewhat easier way. Maus even encapsulates the adage, ââ¬Å"a picture is worth a thousand wordsâ⬠to a tee. The title of the book Maus comes from the German word mauscheln. Mauscheln when translated to English means ââ¬Å"to talk Yiddishâ⬠or ââ¬Å"to cheat,â⬠in terms of playing cards. The Germans laid the blame for Germanyââ¬â¢s economic distress on the Jewish people. During this time frame, all the propaganda posters were portraying the Jewish community as mice. Maus, was a more than appropriate title considering how the Jewish were viewed and treated during this point. There are approximately eight different animals used to represent the different cultures represented in the novels. The three main animals used are mice, which represent the Jewish people; cats, which represent the German people and pigs, representing the Polish people. It seems obvious as to why the Germans and Jews were represented as they were. Germans believed they were superior to everyone else, and in the animal kingdom, the ââ¬Å"kingâ⬠is a lion, which is considered an overgrown cat. With the Germans are represented as cats, it would be more than obvious to portray the Jewish as an animal that would be the victim of a cat, a mouse. The Jewish eventually ended up having to live like mice whilst they were in hiding. The artistic portrayal allows the reader to visualize it in an easier manner than if it had been a point blank worded novel. The other main animal the reader sees representing a group of people is pigs. The Polish are represented as pigs due to the fact that, stereotypically, the Poles are considered greedy and brutal. But if one looks at it from a different perspective, they could say that the reason the Polish are represented as pigs is because of the kielbasa, the Polish delicacy. The only time that the reader actually sees any differences between the ethnicity of a ââ¬Å"characterâ⬠and their religion is in one occasion in Maus. The child of a German and a Jewish person is represented as a mouse with the cat stripes. Other than that one occasion, anytime you see an animal, it is obvious as to whether it is a Pole, a German, a Jew or an American. Aside from the Jewish representation, the other countries being represented, the animal is done as a national identity. The images in Maus offer the reader an understanding that word just would not be able to get across in the same way. For example, on page 31 of Maus, we can tell that Anja is distressed by the way the panel is angled. If this had been a worded novel, the reader would not fully be able to understand the emotions going through the mind of Anja, or even in a way, Vladek. Another example that demonstrates this is in the mini comic- ââ¬Å"Prisoner of Planet Hell. â⬠On page 103, after Artie was discharged from the psychiatric hospital, the reader can see how Artie is feeling suffocated by his mother. Anja is overshadowing Artie, who is curled up in the fetal position- almost as if it is re-creating the image of being in Anjaââ¬â¢s womb. The most prominent example, one that communicates the fear of being a Jew in hiding during this period is when Anja and Valdek are traveling to a new ââ¬Å"safe house. â⬠The road they are walking on is depicted as a swastika. This is a perfect depiction for how dangerous it really was for a Jew to be wandering around in the open. Even later on, when they are in hiding and cannot receive food regularly, they eat like mice and live like mice. With the novels being depicted with animals, it allows the reader to understand the mindset of a German Nazi. Yes, people learn about World War II in history but they do not actually seem to care. They take the class and do the minimum it takes to pass. People who were born farther away from the aftermath period of WWII do not seem to really understand the emotional damage from the Holocaust events. Valdek even says that ââ¬Å"nobody can understand. â⬠The Holocaust is extremely hard to comprehend unless one had been there. Anyone could read Diary of Anne Frank or Night, but what do they really take away from it? The Germans held hatred toward anyone they deemed ââ¬Ëinhuman. ââ¬â¢ Let it have been the Jews, the Poles or the Slavs; the Germans depicted them in the propaganda posters that would turn others against them. In the end, using animals and the graphic novel to depict the events was probably one of the smartest things to do. It gives a first hand, one sided account that allows the reader to see the truth. Truth that has not been tainted by the media, truth shows real pain from a survivor. Maus really encapsulates the truth of the Holocaust. It shows how brutal humanity can be. It also demonstrates how weak minded some people can be, going against what they may think is morally wrong in order to keep themselves and their families safe. When someone writes a novel in graphic form, it makes the subject more approachable. However, when an author uses animals as the characters it brings a whole new dimension to a book. It allows to reader to view the subject manner in a whole new way.
